Florida Board of Nursing
In Florida, the Board of Nursing is responsible for issuing CNA licenses. Prometric administers the CNA exam, but the Board oversees the certification and maintains the official registry.

Because this course is not a state approved program, Students taking this course will be challenging the state exam. This course is strictly a tutoring service proving students with necessary tools to pass the CNA state exam.
Therefore, If an applicant fails to pass the nursing assistant competency examination in three attempts, the applicant is not eligible for reexamination unless the applicant completes an approved training program.
Prometric Test Registration Instructions
To be eligible for the Prometric CNA examination in Florida, candidates must either complete a state-approved CNA training program or meet the criteria to challenge the exam. In this course, you will be preparing to challenge the exam; therefore, the following requirements must be met before applying for state exam:

You must be at least 18 years of age.

Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

Successfully pass a Level II Livescan background check.

Application: Submit your application to Prometric and pay the examination fee, which includes both the written and skills portions.
After receiving your application, it will be reviewed by a processor. If more information is required or if your application is approved, you will receive an email notification. Prometric will process your eligibility within 72 hours.

State Testing Fees:
The cost for the Florida CNA exam, which includes the written (audio option available-optional) and clinical skills tests. There are additional fees for rescheduling or reviewing the exam. Written portion is also available in Spanish at no additional cost.

If student fails either the clinical or written exam, only need to retake the portion that was failed, and pay the corresponding fees.

Scheduling: Upon receipt of your application and payment, Prometric will provide details on how to schedule your examination. Prometric schedule exams within 7-14 business days and sends out “admission ticket” for testing via email.

Passing the Exam: The prometric CNA Exam is a two-part examination, consisting of a written and a performance (skills) section. The Written Test is a ninety (90) minute test with sixty (60) multiple-choice questions. Written test also available in Spanish. The Manual Skills Evaluation requires the applicant to perform five (5) randomly selected nursing assistant skills.

Multiple Attempts: Individuals challenging the exam are permitted up to three attempts to pass the state examination. If you do not pass after three attempts, enrollment in a state-approved CNA program is required.

Special Testing Accommodations: The Department of Health will provide reasonable and appropriate special testing accommodations due to disability, religious conflict, or English as a second language (ESL).Applications for special testing accommodations are processed through the Operational Support Services Section as a separate requirement from the licensure examination application process.
Medical documentation in support of an accommodation request is required and shall be used by department medical consultants to independently assess the reported condition for purposes of authorizing appropriate accommodations. Documentation should include a detailed report of evaluation completed by a licensed psychologist or physician addressing the following:

Clinical history or copies of ongoing treatment records

Description of current functional restrictions in the daily activities

Differential diagnostic considerations, ruling out alternative explanations as substance abuse, prescription side effects, treatable physical conditions

Documentation of the signs and symptoms that support the diagnosis

Response to treatment, with assessment of residual signs and symptoms.

Background Screening

Applicants must use a Livescan service provider to have their fingerprints submitted electronically to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) for conducting a search for any Florida and national criminal history records that may pertain to applicant.

The results will be returned to the Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse (Clearinghouse) and made available to the Department for consideration during the licensure process.

The Department does not accept hard fingerprint cards or results. All results must be submitted electronically to the Clearinghouse.

It is important to use the correct Originating Agency Identification (ORI) when submitting fingerprints. If you do not provide an ORI number or if you provide an incorrect ORI number to the service provider, the board office will not receive your fingerprint results, so it is extremely important to use the correct ORI when having your fingerprints scanned.

Criminal Background

Any applicant who has ever been found guilty of or pled guilty to any charge other than a minor traffic offense must list each offense on the application. Failure to disclose criminal history may result in denial of your application.

Violent crimes and repeat offenders are required to be presented to the Board of Nursing for review. Evidence of rehabilitation is important to the board members when making licensure decisions.

For Felony Disqualifying Offenses (regardless of adjudication), you would not be eligible for an Exemption until 3 years have passed since the completion of any non-monetary obligations (confinement, probation, community service, etc.). All fines, fees, restitution, etc. must also be paid in full.

Applicants with prior criminal convictions are required to submit the following documentation to the board:

Self-Explanation – If have listed offenses on the application must submit a letter in your own words describing the circumstances of the offense.

Final Dispositions/Arrest Records – Final disposition records for offenses can be obtained at the clerk of the court in the arresting jurisdiction.

Completion of Probation/Parole/Sanctions –records for offenses can be obtained at the clerk of the court the Department of Corrections or at the clerk of the court in the arresting jurisdiction

Letters of Recommendation – Applicants who have listed offenses on the application must submit 3-5 professional letters of recommendation from people you have worked for or with.
